If I had posted during this time, my posts would have gone something like this...
Day 1... Jack learned how to unlock the dishwasher today while we were doing the floor and walked into the bedroom banging together two steak knives.
Day 2... Jack decided it's fun to open the oven, climb on top of the door and play with the stove burners today.
Day 3... Had to call Poison Control today because Jack decided he thoroughly likes the taste of mineral spirits. By the way, childproof lids may not come off, but they definitely may leak... a lot!
You get the idea. It is a VERY good thing that we are done because I rather like having my Jack-Jack around! The thing I like about having completed this process is that my kids are forced to play outside every day because most of their inside toys are packed. I used to have to beg them to go into the back yard. Now they ask me to go. They are even looking a little tanned this year.
Now for the fun stuff...
Molly had her fifth birthday. I can't believe my baby is five and starting Kindergarten! We had a girls' day with her this year. My mom and I took her to Kemah for the day. She ate lobster at the Aquarium restaurant, she shopped, she rode all the rides, she pet the stingrays, and she got new earrings, a purse, and matching dresses for herself and her doll, Jillian. I forgot the digital camera, so I need to scan the pics we took with a disposable camera. She had a fantastic day and it was a good start to her next year as a big girl!
I chaperoned Will's field trip to the Main Street Theatre to see James and the Giant Peach. It was a lot of fun. My timid boy was not found of the girl in the rhino suit but after the loud rhino noises were over, he enjoyed the show. After it was over, he raised his hand and asked one of the actors, "Is it fun to be an actor!?" The guy laughed, assured Will that it was, but mentioned that he still needs to go to college if he wants to be one. Next Tuesday, he has his debut in a class play in which he plays a frog about to lose his rainforest home. He has two lines. In the past, he has never wanted to play a part with lines. So, I think the play really made an impact.
We took a family camping trip with our friends and Bible study classmates the first weekend the house was on the market. We had a great time. Will and Molly went out with me on the boat and LOVED tubing. I wish I had video of their faces! I think everyone will be replaying a scene for me over the next few years in which I ran, arms flailing, toward the men at the barbecue pit, screaming "BABY BY THE FIRE! BABY BY THE FIRE!" I'm sure you can guess which baby it was (see Days 1 through 3 above). Apparently, I look pretty hilarious when in panicked attempt to save my children from burning embers. Come to think of it, I also apparently look pretty hilarious when in panicked attempt to save my children from drowning in the pool (I jumped in fully clothed), running out into the street (also a full run with flailing arms and screaming), and falling down the stairs (I dove over the handrail almost knocking it down and bruising the heck out of my arm). I'm quite the saver, I tell you. I won't mention it was a baby pool, she was 50 yards from the street, or that my mom was holding on to the back belt loop of her outfit at the top of the stairs. I win the Overactor trophy. Funny stuff.
And, finally, we celebrated Dave's grandfather's 90th birthday party. All of the cousins were there (even the one in Aunt Holly's belly). It was wonderful to see everyone and we got good pictures. Happy Birthday Grandad!!!
